The National Higher School of Journalism and Information Sciences (ENSJSI) M’hamed Yazid was established under Executive Decree No. 09–252 on 19 Shaban 1430, corresponding to August 10, 2009, which mandated the creation of the school. It is a public national institution dedicated to higher education, research, and specialized, forward-looking training in journalism, communication, and media sciences. Despite its recent establishment, the school has successfully secured a prominent position in media education and the evolving communication professions in Algeria; notably, it stands as the only national institution ranked in the Times Higher Education 2024 subject rankings for media and communication sciences. Aligned with Algeria’s overarching strategy to pace digital and technological advancements across various sectors, the school has committed to continuously updating its academic offerings in both Master’s and Doctoral programs. This effort aims to prepare journalists and media professionals capable of addressing contemporary challenges through specialized curricula in economic journalism, audiovisual journalism, media geopolitics, institutional communication, and scientific and environmental journalism—thereby filling critical expertise gaps in Algeria’s media, economic, and healthcare sectors.
Welcome to the official website of the National Higher School of Journalism and Information Sciences “M'hamed Yazid”, an academic institution dedicated to training a new generation of journalists, researchers, and media professionals capable of keeping pace with the profound transformations shaping both the national and international media landscape. In this regard, the school is committed to continuously reviewing and updating its academic programs, adopting modern pedagogical approaches, and developing research projects that aim to bridge the gap between academic training and professional media practice, while responding to the demands of the digital environment in communication and media professions. This effort is driven by a commitment to serving society and the national economy, and to contributing to the development of the media sector in Algeria.
“At the National Higher School of Journalism and Information Sciences, we firmly believe that building a professional, free, and responsible media landscape begins with a solid academic foundation and a university environment that fosters critical thinking, ethical commitment, and a spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship.
Welcome to your school—a space for knowledge, research, and innovation.”
Mohamed Yazid is one of the most prominent figures of media and activism in Algeria’s history. He played a key role during the Algerian Revolution within the National Liberation Front, particularly in the fields of media and diplomacy, contributing to conveying the voice of the Algerian Revolution to international public opinion and defending its cause through journalism and political work.
In this context, the National Higher School of Journalism and Information Sciences was named after him in recognition of his legacy and pioneering role in establishing a committed and responsible national media. Choosing him as the institution’s symbol reflects the values the school seeks to instill in its students: professionalism, credibility, commitment to national causes, and an understanding of media as a tool for influence and social change.

The National Higher School of Journalism and Information Sciences – M’hamed Yazid has been strengthened by the establishment of the Quality Assurance Unit, which oversees internal auditing procedures and self-assessments across various pedagogical, administrative, and research activities. This unit is also dedicated to implementing quality benchmarks through the application of regulatory frameworks, as well as national and international quality assurance standards.
Among the core responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Unit is the collection and analysis of feedback, which involves designing questionnaires and surveys to evaluate institutional performance and student support services, followed by a comprehensive analysis of the results.
Despite the establishment of the Entrepreneurship Center and the Business Incubator in March 2025, these structures have already succeeded in organizing several training sessions for both students of the school and external participants. These initiatives aim to support and guide project holders throughout the process of creating companies and developing various economic activities.
These efforts have contributed to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the academic environment, while also supporting projects related to modern service-based and productive sectors.
As a result, students of the school have achieved positive outcomes, including obtaining two startup labels, as well as the registration of several students who are currently defending their graduation theses within the framework of startup creation projects.
